In April, we found out the TASSCC chose SAIL to receive their Community Service Award for all the work we did this year with our virtual program.
I received a grant to purchase two books (The Distance Learning Playbook and SEL From a Distance) for all of our teachers. We were able to hold two book studies during the year to learn more about teaching virtually, and how to help our students with their SEL needs. I partnered with Causeway Galveston, and they paid for the author of the book to hold three professional development sessions specific to SEL for our teachers.
Our Program Counselor and I teamed up to write an $8,000 grant to create a "Hug in a Box." The box contained different tools to help with anxiety and depression and were given to approximately 200 students in the SAIL program.
I also teamed up with two science teachers to write grants for approximately $7,000 to provide a hands-on science kit for each of our students in 5th-9th. Students' parents picked up the kits, and they did the lab with their teachers on Zoom during class.
