I come from a single parent home, and was probably coded At-Risk and Economically Disadvantaged. My mother stressed the importance of education my entire life. She worked hard to provide for our family, and often times, teachers and counselors stepped in to keep me on track. They believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself. After graduating high school, college started off very rough. I actually dropped out at one point and never thought I would go back. Again, teachers pushed me and held high expectations for me. In college, I never changed my mind at 'what I wanted to be when I grew up.' I always knew I wanted to be a teacher-to work with students, push them to be their best, and provide them with opportunities they might not otherwise have experienced. I strive to help students the same way teachers did for me from the time I was a child, all the way through my college years. My philosophy of education is that education provides the opportunities for the future for every student we teach. As an employee of Dickinson ISD, I would bring strategic and innovative ideas to help grow programs and schools-- combining opportunity and a passion for education. I believe my experiences in education, working with kids as young as 5 years old through 20+ years old, will help to grow the students and staff I work with. My goal would be to take on innovative approaches- combining technology, professional development and community to help the students and their families excel in their pursuit of education.
